One of the things I love most about the City of Fayetteville is the diversity of our community. This diversity allows us to celebrate so many different cultures and historical moments in such unique ways. . .
We at Circa 1865 are elated to announce Cumberland County’s First Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. There are many ways the celebrate Juneteenth and this year we would like to honor the occasion with a festival Cumberland County will remember for years to come!
The Juneteenth Freedom Festival was started to share the history of slavery and to memorialize its ending. The major intent of the festival is to honor the sacrifice of our ancestors and share the cultural heritage of slaves and their descendants through entertainment, art, education, and developing a sense of community.
Join us for a celebration of the African American community and those who gave their lives for our freedoms. The festivities will begin on June 15th with the Juneteenth Freedom Breakfast, followed by the Freedom Parade, and finishing the day with Juneteenth in the Park [Festival Park]. We are inviting guest speakers, entertainment of all types, over 50 vendors, concluding with a fireworks display.
