2 Daisies And A Leader: A Bonding Experience

Fall Pumpkin Fun

Recently our Troop ventured out on our first Troop Field Trip of the year.  We wanted our girls to know that being a NCCP Girl Scout is about finding time to bond with each other as a Troop not only in meetings but through shared experiences as well.  So we gathered all our Girls and headed out to a local Pumpkin Farm for a hayride, pumpkins and day full of fun!

We wanted the Girls to learn a bit about where and how pumpkins grow. During the hayride, our Girls were able to learn how the farm functioned and the roles of some of the different animals that were there.  They even learned how each animal helped the farm grow in its own way.  This was awesome especially for my group of Daisies since our Journey lessons have been all about how animals and people all need help and how we can help each other.

Then it was time for lunch, a chance to walk around the farm, playtime in the children’s area of the farm and ending the day by letting the Girls select their very own pumpkin to take back with us to decorate as a Troop.  Last year was my very first hayride as a parent with my oldest daughter and we had a blast!  This year was no different, even as a Leader with a bit of a different role the day was fun and full of learning and laughter for both the Girls and the Leaders.

Troop Bonding

The next week, we had a Pumpkin Decorating and Candied Apple Party.  We spray painted each Girl’s pumpkin with chalkboard paint and then gave them colorful chalk and let their imaginations run free.  Some of the designs they came up with were scary, pretty or just plain unique.  No matter what their design the Girls had a blast coming up with them.

Once we finished decorating, the Leaders and the Parent Volunteers helped make Troop-made Candied Apples that the Girls got to enjoy.  We even had a variety of toppings to add to the fun!

As a Troop, we hope by creating these bonding experiences we create memories for our Girls to look back on and say “This is what I did as a Girl Scout and I Can’t Wait To let my daughter experience it too!”

Savannah? Are you going to Juliette Low’s? I really want to get my Girls there too. It seems like it would be such an awesome experience.
