MY 8:28 Blessing:

This week has been one of unexpected worry and fear for my family.

Read This Too  Five Minute Friday ~ ‘small’ things.

I received a text from my son stating a student had made a threat against certain students in his school. At this point thy didn’t know if it was a joke or something to be taken seriously.  Still the threat had left it’s impression. School officials immediately went into action, canceling the school’s Homecoming Dance and alerting the authorities .

Fear Reaches Out…

Isn’t it troubling how one person’s desire to hurt another can change the paths and lives of so many others?  These students were innocent and yet their lives were being altered by someone who felt he had been wronged by a select few. Seniors of the school were upset because Homecoming is a major memory and it was being taken away from them.

Faith Makes A Stand…

I began to think, not only was this individual affecting the lives of the students he threatened but my own, my Hubby’s even my youngest Kiddies simply by opening a door for fear to enter out home.  How could I let that happen?  My God had not given me a Spirit of Fear .  No God gifted me with Love, Power and a Sound Mind (2 Timothy 1:7).  Yet I was allowing my Power and Soundness of Mind to be slowly taken away from me by this threat.

We kept my son home the majority of the week, based on Hubby’s instincts and even with the breaking information being given by school officials.  They released a Statement that they were taking every precaution to ensure the safety of the students. By Tuesday they announced that a student nearly 4 States away had been arrested and confessed to the threat. He stated he had no ties to the school and the whole thing was done as a Facebook prank. What a relief!

We kept him home a few more days. Then came Thursday.  This Fear had been in my home long enough.  I decided to introduce this fear to my Faith.  We sent him to school, covered in prayers and protection from God.  The day went smoothly.

Standing on His Promises…

Friday night was the Homecoming Game and the school rescheduled Homecoming Dance for the same night. Authorities assured us that the person responsible for the threat was in custody and that he was the only person involved.  I had to move past my fears and start believing the Promises I knew were given to me.  He would never forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:6).

My son marched in the Homecoming Game of his Senior Year.  I drew from my faith and relied on that strength to overcome my worry and fear.  To allow the actions of this person to take away from our lives would have been unfair. We as parents had to trust in the authorities and their word that the threat was eliminated but I also had to release my fears and allow my faith to remain.

This week’s #828Blessings for me: Learning how to trust and rely on Faith despite how the situations may call for Fear.
