Finding your voice. Learning how to develop it. Yet when I read the question the first thing I thought was that I’d never lost my voice. To me my inner voice has been as much a part of me as my name or my face. I always heard it in whispers, rhyme, conflict, encouragement…it’s a part of me. It’s a familiar voice that I have never lost but have at times ignored. So when it came to making a place for it on my Blog it wasn’t ever a question of how just when…
November 5th Prompt:
Do you feel you have found your voice on your blog?
What techniques have you tried to develop your voice in your writing?
What are some characteristics of your personality in your writing?
The decision to start my Blog took root when I realized that my journals, notebooks and occasional Facebook Status posts just weren’t giving my voice the volume it needed anymore. I wanted feedback, interaction and a place where my creativity could be sparked to different levels.
MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter was that place for me. I knew I wanted to speak on my life and who I am: Woman, Wife and Mother but that I also wanted to have the room to grow and expand to different interests and topics. Since beginning this Blogger journey I have found that spark I was looking for through so many different places like Lisa Jo’s Five Minute Friday where you are given a one word prompt to free write on for 5 minutes only. No editing, changing or rewriting. You just allow your voice to flow and be. I haven’t been able to participate recently but when I did it was such a freedom. I felt like that nerd girl student back in High School Literature class. I loved the challenges and creative writing techniques we used to explore and to me this was like a little piece of Heaven.
I have also tried to develop and challenge myself by joining things like NaBloPoMo and different writing Challenges to help me move beyond my comfort zone of topics and into places that if given a choice I may not venture into BUT when faced with a challenge I find that I have thoughts, opinions and a voice that wanted to speak on it but may have been muffled by my own guards.
My writing is very much like my personality: quirky, humorous, corny with touches of inspiration and reflection here and there. In most cases I tend to write as I speak without too much thought to grammar and the laws of English I usually love so much. Yet when needed I can call upon my English tools and rules and make my High School English teacher proud.

I like reading posts that sound just like the person writing them.
I do too Niki, I feel like I am getting to know the through their words.
I write in bursts when I simply cannot contain my thoughts in my head anymore. I have never written to a prompt out on my blog
I have moments and situations in my life that simply flow out of me in my writing as well. A prompt is a great way to find a creative path that may not be directly related to life or a current situation. I find it gives me a different perspective on things and at times leads me to a new line of thought.
Hello Tiffany! I agree, writing in your natural voice is best. If I had to write any other way it wouldn't be much fun. I have to be myself. 😉

Hi Vashti!! It is so much more authentic and natural. I agree, it just helps you to flow better 😀
I love with blogging that it gives you permission to write in a way that feels natural. For so many years I was in academic mode, and when I started blogging that was how I knew how to write. Now I write more like I speak, and feel more and more comfortable writing and sharing my thoughts. I think your voice really shines through on your blog!

Yes! You said it perfectly. Thank you so much Bev!
I may have to start using a prompt again…though finding time to blog has been a big issue for me. I love the voice and feel of your blog.
My recent post Just Finished Reading…
I used to be a bit against prompts but I have found them to be very helpful in sparking a bit of thought on a topic or thought I may not have gone to on my own. Thanks so much Karen, I\’m glad to have you come visit 😀
We always take our voice for granted. I love that you acknowledged who you are and who you have always been, a writer. And that you needed a volume louder than FB and the privacy of your journals for your voice. Great Post!
Thank You Rachel! You seriously got me in this post 🙂 Thanks for coming by!
I also write the way that I speak. My blog is fairly new and I don't write much there because I write giant posts on Facebook. I am going to change that I promise. I have really awesome friends/mentors who let me know that my voice is perfect the way that it is and I didn't have to be perfect before I blog. I still struggle with that some what because I want things to be perfect. I think this challenge is going to help me writing daily in November will help me.
Hi Theresa! I think writing in your natural voice is the best way to have an authentic connection with your Readers – especially as a Blogger. You should totally bring your thoughts over to your Blog…the only posts I make sure are perfect are sponsored. When I am writing for me from me – it comes as it flows.
So let me try this again.. without my blog link.. I think a blog is a wonderful place to find our voices. Losing my place earlier this year crushed me so I am so glad to be back in the saddle and writing once more, even if I feel like a baby bird all over again
Thanks for your persistence 🙂 A Blog can definitely be a wonderful way to give your voice the freedom it needs and if the restoration you may need as well.
Those guards can be brutal. I'm glad you bypass them, and let your heart shine through in your writing.
I've found that sometimes I go much deeper in my writing when I write to a prompt. Sometimes that challenge of trying something new helps me to open up in new ways.

Yes they can. It is always worth it in the end.
I am starting to find out the same thing. The prompts take away the need to think about it too much. Free writing based on a sentence or two can be such a journey or discovery within yourself.
Thanks so much for coming by Tracie and your always encouraging words 🙂
I love your attitude. Keep up the good work!
