It’s summertime which here in North Carolina most definitely equals hot & humid (hand in hand ladies and gents they work as a couple in these parts!).
So for my Hubby and Kiddies they know this usually means the stove and oven are on a mini-vacation of sorts. Not that Momma stops cooking!!! Whoa there!!! Still budget friendly, just we do more warm weather friendly meals…the less heat needed the better! I don’t wanna loose 10lbs making a meal before I can gain it back eating it….(Ummm sorry I’m not very figure conscious)
Yet this summer my kitchen has been hotter than normal. My Teenager (16 and growing folks..) has suddenly decided he’s the family cook. The kid I usually find playing video games or curled up reading a book, has suddenly become my very own personal chef.
So far we’ve enjoyed Spaghetti with Italian Sausage and Sauce, Steak with Yellow Rice and Corn, Ziti with Sausage and most recently Breaded Chicken Breast!!! If everything weren’t actually good I may have time to be in shock. He cooks!
I’m not sure if Hubby’s advice that a man who can cook earns extra ‘points’ may have jump started this summertime cooking adventure but if it keeps me in the coolness of the living room and teaches him at the same time…I’m all for it! A Teenager who wants to cook? Who woulda thought?
Have your Kiddies surprised you with any unexpected hobbies this summer?

I love that you call your teenager "The Teenager." I have a "My Teenager" at my house too. He's almost 15, and he makes a mean pizza and has kicked me out of the kitchen on Fridays for Friday pizza night–no complaints here. He earns extra points with me by knowing how to make my coffee. Teenage barista. 😀
Yes, It is all that can apply at this point…he's 16 and fully embracing the moodiness…yet my sweet cuddly boy is still locked up inside there somewhere…hence the volunteering to cook..:) LOL
