I’m not sure about you but when my children are on a break from school we pull out every stop possible to keep they entertained and away from the dreaded “I’m Bored!”
This year we did that with the help of their new tablets and a few e-books. The one they seemed to enjoy the most was Janie and the Magic Box Christmas By Julia Dweck.
Not only were the illustrations by Terry Sirrell amazing and caught all of my children’s attention immediately but the story itself was one that peaked their interest because it was told from the view of Janie a cute little dog who was worried about the fate of Christmas because of how hot her town is.
My children immediately related to this problem since we live in the South and we had 70 degree weather a mere 2 days before Christmas. They wondered too if the lack of snow would somehow impact their Christmas Day wishes. My children loved how the story flowed with the rhyming and funny take on Janie getting so upset when she realizes the heat may be there to stay!
It wasn’t until the very end that I asked my children how they liked the story since we were all so excited as we read. Each one from my 6 year old to my 2 year old wanted to read more about Janie. Needless to say, this book became a nightly read throughout out Holiday break (even days past Christmas) and I can guarantee Janie will be making another appearance next year!

I will have to keep this book in mind when my daughter gets older. Thanks for joining the Thumping Thursday bloghop.
Yes. It is a great book for the Holiday season and even a bit beyond :). Thank you for hosting…
