About last night…
It was amazing! I had the chance to taste the awesomeness that is MakUs Empanadas in Durham, NC. I was super excited because this was going to be my very first time tasting an empanada!
Empanadas – it’s a super fun word to say and the ladies of NCSocial had so much fun saying it and enjoying every single bite owners, Hernan, Santiago, and Ricky offered us!
Each month the members of NCSocial meet at a different North Carolina based business – restaurants, event venues, spas – we love to support and promote the businesses that are helping make North Carolina the state we love. Thanks to the amazing organization efforts of Andrea of Good Girl Gone Redneck and Kate Kelly of Life Of A Ginger we always receive the VIP treatment.
The Story…
The night started with Hernan giving us a bit of background on the start of MakUs. He shared with us the story of how his wife’s passing was the start of a renewed friendship with Ricky and the spark of the idea for MakUs between them and Hernan’s brother Santiago. Together they wanted to bring their love of empanadas beyond their own family dinner tables to their community.
Yet that’s just the thing that struck me the most. These three friends took so many risks, learned so many new things to make this dream a reality and in the process they have created a place where you not only feel like a member of their family but like you’re sitting down to dinner with old friends and new acquaintances all at the same time!
“The guys have long dreamed of sharing their all-time favorite food—with absolutely everyone. More importantly, they want to share the strong sense of community that this little pocket of intense flavor seems to bring with it, wherever it goes. Their authentic recipes come from grandparents, passed down to the kids in their home kitchen. Makus Empanadas is built around the belief that good food doesn’t have to be complicated and that the best memories can be built around something as simple as a pack of empanadas.”
The Food…
I know what you’re thinking. How was the food? Well let me just say it was deliciously amazing! These guys made sure we left full, happy and content. From appetizer to dessert they had us covered!
Chippa Bread (appetizer) – Salad/Cole Slaw – Red Beans & Rice – Cochitos
Oh and the menu doesn’t stop there. There are options for kids, family meals and so much more. You know what? I’ll just show you!
Wish You Were There!
There was so much about last night that was more than just a MeetUp that I think you have to see it for yourself!
