Have you ever done something merely because the person you love needed, wanted or deserved it? You know the types of things I’m talking about. Not the things you want to do but the things you feel love requires or calls you to do.
I have. Whether it be getting up early to take my Teenager to practice, going out in the rain to get my Girlies to dance or even watching that 500th episode of COPS simply to spend time with my Hubby. These are not all things I am anxious to do but in the name of love I do them anyway.
I get up at 6 after only closing my eyes at Midnight, I drive in the rain when the thing I want most is to be in my dry and warm home, I watch as the car chase ends up on the side of the road when I much rather be watching my favorite episode of Scandal. 😉 I do it all because I want those people I love to be productive, happy and near me. I do it all in the name of love.
Did you know that God also does many things for us in the name of love? It isn’t because we deserve it or have somehow earned them but merely because of His unconditional and unfailing love for us. God gave his son, gives daily grace and mercy and his unlimited forgiveness all in the name of love.
John 3:16 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
If it weren’t for God’s love I’m not sure I would be here today. It was because of His love that I found the strength to hold onto my faith during my Teen Pregnancy even when others may have judged me and written me off. It was because of His love that I was able to move forward in my call and turn my tests and trials into testimonies and encouragement for young girls and women who were coming through the same storms I’d survived. Lastly, it is because of His love that I am able to give love so sincerely to my Hubby, Kiddies and Family in spite of and despite the hurts, scars and wounds I may have from my past.
So when I think of the things that God has done for me in the name of love and even the things I do for my loved ones daily in the name of love I also think of those things that I should do for the stranger, the woman all alone, the child in need of love or even that person who may not treat me the way I feel they should. It’s then I decide that I will love them as He has loved me all in the name of love.
John 13-34-35 (KJV)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.
