How To Support Your [Blogging] Community #NaBloPoMo

How To Support Your [Blogging] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.com

This week’s prompt is one that calls upon us to take a look at what we know, what we have experience in and even what we may see ourselves and knowledgeable about and share it with others. I don’t see myself as an expert in many things but I do know that I always try to learn from my experiences. As a new Blogger the first thing I had the chance to learn was finding the support of a community. The second thing was how to be a true support within that community.

NaBloPoMo November 2014 | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.com

As a Blogger finding a community of like-minded Bloggers with similar goals, ambition and drive can be difficult to say the least. Yet when you do it is one of the biggest assets to anyone looking to find true success. Once you are a part of a Blogging Community learning how to support that community is key to it’s success as well as your own.

How To Support Your [Bloggiing] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.com

Joining an Online Community or Facebook Group is only the first step but there are several other things needed to be an active support to that community.

How To Support Your [Blogging] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.comGive your fellow Bloggers well thought out, constructive and supportive comments. Each time I read a new comment on my site I am excited to see what impact my words had on someone, did they relate, disagree, empathize? When I write I write to share my feeling, experience and emotions. So when someone comments I am always eager to see what they felt as they read. This is true for most Bloggers. Needless to say, reading a comment that is clearly no more than a pass through can be a bit of a let down: “Nice post.” “Thanks for sharing” Or even a comment that is no more than a plug for someone’s own site and content: “Great post, I just wrote this one…come see” “Would love a follow”. As a rule of thumb I always try to give the comment I would want to receive. If I read a post and it truly had no significant impact on me or even if I simply can’t find the words to explain the impact it had – I don’t comment. Quality is better than quantity even with comments.

How To Support Your [Blogging] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.comShare, Pin, Like and spread the word about other Blogger’s sites and content.  When I am at a loss for words or a post simply resonates with me to the point where I know it needs to be seen by others that’s when I take those few moments to share. Whether I Pin, Tweet, Google+, Like or share to Facebook I do my best to get the word out that ‘Hey! This is something you all need to read and here’s why…’

You know that saying ‘what goes around comes around’? Most times when you are a person who supports in sharing the content of fellow Bloggers in your community they are more than willing and most times eager to return that same support to you.

How To Support Your [Blogging] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.comShare your knowledge – if you know a tip, trick or guide to doing something share. There are times when we all need a bit of help. Making a thumbnail, editing an image, how to share…how to anything. If you have knowledge that can be a help to the next person share it. There are so many things that I have learned from the amazing Bloggers within my community that would have been so much harder for me to find or figure out on my own.

How-To-Engage

Engage your Readers and Followers by creating conversation and interaction through comments. When people take the time to leave a comment on a post they are letting you know that what you said had an impact on them. It meant something. If they ask a question – answer them. If they share something of themselves – acknowledge it. It can be something as small as using their name whenever possible. Let them know they are more than an IP address. Thank them for visiting and let them know it meant something to you.

How To Support Your [Blogging] Community | MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter.comAs part of a community, be present within that community. Participate in Threads, LinkUps, Hops. If you join something that has rules of reciprocation do your best to be consistent. It can be very hard to support, share and engage with someone who never seems to do the same with you.
I know, life happens. There have been times when I may miss a deadline on a Thread but I still return that support even if I may be an hour or so late. it is noticed and whether it is said or not, it is remembered.
These are some of the main things I try to follow as part of the Blogging communities I have joined. I always want my fellow Bloggers to know that I want their success and I’m willing to help them find it. I have been blessed to find communities where I know that this is the reason why they are there as well.
How do you show support within your Blogging community?

I started a blog only last week so I've been reading up on blogging communities. This is one of the most useful pieces that I've found on the topic. Thanks so much.

Congratulations Melissa!! I am so glad you found it helpful!! Please let me know if you need or have any questions… It\’s all about support 🙂

How very kind of you. There's so much to learn about blogging. Your membership page was very insightful and I'm looking into the communities that you belong to. This is all so exciting. 😀

Anytime! I hope you find answers to any questions you have and once again feel free to ask for anything you can’t find.. 🙂

Thanks for these awesome points! Just started blogging in October and one of my favorite parts of the whole experience has been getting to know other bloggers and reading their thoughts. I always try to show love by +1ing or tweeting or whatever. Usually only add one of my links if it truly has to do with whatever they've posted(:

    1. MrsTee Avatar

Thanks for coming by Britney! Getting to know each other is definitely one of the main things I enjoy about the Blogging Community. It sounds like you’re already on a great path of support 🙂

I do all of these, and I genuinely enjoy them. I even tried to promote something I wanted to do called "Bloggers Helping Bloggers" in which we would swap blog buttons to display in our sidebars without charging for ad space and not a single person in the month I promoted it showed an interest. So I was really getting discouraged and wanted to quit, as I was honestly feeling kinda shunned/ignored. But I recently found a great blogging group on Facebook and I've felt so much happier since I joined and started participating in it. I didn't feel connected to the blogging community at all prior to that.

I have found the craft blogging community the nicest and most supportive bunch of people I have probably ever "met" I love how friendly everyone is almost with out exception.
I tend to comment on just a few other posts per day as I do ramble on a bit and have no time to leave lots! I thinking quality rather then quantity. I love to pin things that are clever, beautiful or inspiring anyway so a quick pin is no problem, I find it hard to be all over all the different social medias so feel I don't share very well on any of them – definitely something to look at /think about.

    1. MrsTee Avatar

Thant’s great Julie! Finding a supportive community is definitely one of the biggest blessings. I agree that quality has greater value than quantity when it comes to comments. Pins are an easy and fast way to show support…Thanks so much for coming by and visiting me today 😀

This sounds like me – leave a one sentence comment? Seriously? ME? No way, if I comment you'll probably learn my favorite food, hear half my life story, get a funny dog story, and learn what color underwear I'm wearing LOL

I try to do this — sometimes I am better at it than at other times. I signed up for the NaBloPoMo this month and have done nothing else with it! It's so hard to keep up with the posting on the blog and then pinning the link-ups, etc. I haven't done other things I might have done. Thanks for linking up to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party! I’ve pinned you post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board.

Thanks for sharing! Haha just kidding. Seriously, these are all very good tips. I get the short comments on my blog too and sometimes wonder if I should even approve them to be published. A couple of them I have and a couple of them I haven't. Don't ask me how I made my decision, because I have no rhyme or reason….It is good to hear if someone relates or not. Even if they don't perhaps they learned something new and let you know that. Visiting from #TurnitupTuesday

Awesome post Tiffany! I love every single one of your tips and couldn't agree with them more. One thing that always saddens me is when I go to read on a post on an already well-established blog (say 4-5 years old) and I see a heap of comments but no response from the blog author/owner. I realize life gets in the way, I realize they are probably busy, and don't have the time to reply to 100+ comments, but no replies ever at all…I hope I never become like that. It honestly discourages me from commenting in the first place!

Some bloggers reply privately through email. I use to think the same thing until I learned that. So that could be the case – the blogger just doesn't reply on the blog. I don't reply by email because I don't want to give that impression.

When I started a blog a couple of months ago I was excited to share my well thought out words with others. To blog is to give and share with others. Everyone has a voice and their voice matters. When nobody comments – it feels as if posting is pointless. I'm discouraged. I don't want to do this to others who blog. I understand what it is like to take time out of life and write. I write to encourage others and I take my blog serious. When I see just numbers of people who viewed my work but left nothing makes me feel used. I blog for free. I don't want to blog for money. I want to serve my community and I want to encourage other writers too. The one thing I have to watch is that I don't follow too many blogs and neglect to care by leaving a comment, like, or share. Thanks for this post and thanks everyone for your comments. I want to be more thoughtful about my comments now. You all got me to thinking.

    1. MrsTee Avatar

Writing to share a part of yourself and your experience is the truest form I feel. A blog is the perfect platform for this and I agree, when you have no engagement it can not only be discouraging but a bit of a let down. I don\’t think your Readers intend to use you but it may be as I said, perhaps they can not find the words to express the impact your post had on them. Perhaps they are sharing instead of commenting? I am happy you came by Lisa and that my post had an impact on you. All we can do is try to engage and support others in the hope that we receive the same in return.

      1. Lisa Avatar
        Lisa

What an excellent point and i agree. Yes many readers my be sharing and yes it is not always easy to find the words to write when commenting. Perhaps I am being a bit hard on others when I made the statement that I feel used. Maybe a bit extreme. So thanks for helping me see another point of view. You are much more positive than I am.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your thoughts re: genuine interaction/discussion. Even worse than "nice post" is when something is said insinuating that the person clearly didn't even read the post! It breaks my heart because I want to create true relationships.

Seriously so true! I wish that more people followed some of these rules. It's awesome to see when you have comments or likes, follows whatever's and then you get there and it's a "great post, thanks for sharing" type of day. I was like that in the beginning then I really became involved with so many of the people in this crazy world and I love them all! thanks for sharing <—LOL Holly

    1. MrsTee Avatar

Thanks Holly. Yes, that can be such a let down at times. Still you\’re right!! When you get to know your fellow Bloggers you get to know the story behind their words and it makes it so much easier for your comments to be more than , thanks for sharing LOL 😉

    2. MrsTee Avatar

Right? I’ve had comments that made it seem like the person didn’t even read the post but maybe just the title. It can be a real let down. Engagement is so key and just those few words that mean something are so important.

I couldn't agree more with all your tips. I must say I am guilty of leaving the "thanks for sharing". I try to pin and share as much as I can. True believer of what goes around comes around. I feel this also needs to shared with our readers. Before blogging, I felt uneasy commenting on blogs. That these people don't care what I have to say. Well that is further from the truth.
