That’s My Signature – Putting Joy Back Into Cursive Writing!

That's My Signature - Putting Joy Back Into Cursive Writing! | TheMrsTee.com

“CursiveLogic is different from other handwriting methods because, instead of relying on rote memorization, CursiveLogic relies on the inherent structure of the cursive alphabet.” –CursiveLogic.com

I even asked a teacher friend of mine to take a look at the CursiveLogic workbook and here’s what she had to say about it…

“Overall, I feel CursiveLogic gives a really thorough approach to teaching cursive writing. I love that they provide a catchy phrase with each letter, that makes the learning fun, and helps with remembering how to write each letter.” –K. Gilmore, 2nd Grade Teacher

I am so excited to continue the CursiveLogic method and watch my daughter as she learns the art of cursive writing and keeps the joy while she does it.

CursiveLogic’s Kickstarter Campaign is ending in a few days and I am so excited to see where they go from here. I know that both my children and I are so grateful for this new way to approach such a classic style of writing.

Personally (maybe I'm biased) but I think cursive is really important. It's really a shame that they stopped teaching it in public school. I am teaching all my kids. In my experience, learning cursive first not only made print easier (printing was really really difficult for my kids) but it has other developmental advantages. Learning cursive is like learning an art.

I've been meaning to write to my school district for a while thanking them for keeping cursive in the curriculum. My daughters love learning to "write fancy!" And what about all those old documents that were never written in anything BUT cursive? They need to know cursive, they just do.

Yes! Kudos to your District Jenny! Ours is still threatening to remove it and I am so disappointed. You\’re right! Cursive is definitely becoming a loss skill but not if I can help it in my home 🙂

I have to disagree with you, I think cursive writing should not be taught in schools.
I think it should rather be taught as a form of art. Maybe I feel this way because I have terrible handwriting myself and my kids are still learning it in their schools. I find it terribly difficult to try and decipher their scribbles.

I can see how cursive could be an art form yet it is still a skill needed for most legal documents and forms of identification which is why I feel it should be maintained in our schools and/or homeschool curriculums. That said, it can be difficult to learn for some and even harder to master. That’s why this method of learning within the freedom of each letter’s shape and flow gives each person a chance to learn with less emphasis on technique and more on the style of the writing.

I'm in my second year of homeschooling. Let me tell you how confused I was when my neighbor told me that they no longer taught cursive in school. Say what? We started teaching our 7 yr old cursive last year. But I'll definitely have to look into this. Please let me know if you have an affiliate link, as I would love to purchase for my son 🙂

Hi Christine! I was surprised as well when our schools sent home the notices letting us know of the possibility of it being removed. As of today, CursiveLogic is nearing the end of it\l’s KickStarter Campaign and will hopefully be launching in the near future. Please feel free to follow the links to stay up to date with it’s progress.

I was just having this conversation on my facebook fanpage a few weeks ago. In Louisiana they are not teaching cursive writing in the schools. It's shocking to me. But I guess in the world of social media and texting, they don't feel it's necessary. I couldn't wait to learn how to write fancy too. LOL This sounds like a great concept to put the joy back in it.

I remember. I think I may have even commented…that may be where she found me 🙂 it is very shocking that cursive has become so easy to eliminate. My daughter loves learning it this way and for me that\’s what matters most.

I remember being excited for 3rd grade cursive, too, and then being so bummed because we couldn't write purchases until we had learned all the letters, and I have Z in my name. As a 6th grade teacher we've noticed in the last 5 years that they are coming to middle school barely able to print, and unable to read cursive. It's all still part of the curriculum, but according to thestudents they aren't asked or required to use it.

Wow! F was my struggle…the lower case f was something I just couldn’t seem to get right away. I can relate to the not being asked to use it. When I was in school we could take our notes in print but all homework and assignments were to be done in cursive or not turned in. When I spoke with my Teenager about cursive being taken out of the schools he was a Sophomore and he said he hadn’t actually written anything in cursive for school since Middle School. He said most of the teachers preferred them to write in print so they could read it. I am not sure I agree with that. If my teacher couldn’t read my handwriting then I had to improve it. I guess things are simply different but unfortunately not always for the better.

I enjoy writing in cursive… although mine is a hodge podge of American and European cursive. There is something elegant and personal about cursive writing. Thank you for sharing about this program. My son is two but I will be keeping a look out for it when he is at the stage to start writing!

I do too. I had so much fun adding my own flare to it as I grew older. I had no idea European cursive was different. Is it a major difference? Thank you so much for coming by! It will definitely be worth it.

Oh my goodness, my cursive is horrible! It doesn't help that I am left-handed either. Anytime I sign for mail at my office, the UPS guys always ask me for my name again lol

Sounds like an interesting product I don't have kids but was an elementary teacher. It amazies me when kids don't learn to write in cursive. These are life skills that are necessary. Thank you for sharing this!

I am amazed too!! I don\’t understand how it can be thought that typing can replace learning cursive. Thank you for coming by!!

My great nephew is being homeschooled for the first time this year as a 7th grader. His school teacher (prior to homeschooling) actually told him they would have him type rather than perfect his handwriting because he has a sloppy handwriting!! They don't even teach cursive writing where I grandchildren attend school. It blows my mind! I remember my grandmother sitting down with me and helping me practice my writing.

Wow! Really? That’s what I’m scared of. My younger Kiddies are learning how to type and still don’t know how to actually ‘sign’ their names! I don’t think it should be an either or type choice. They need and should have the opportunity to learn both skills! Thank you so much for sharing…

I remember learning cursive and I have to say that my handwriting really rocks thanks to some great elementary teachers and lots of practice. I think it's sad that cursive is being left behind. Everyone needs to know how to sign their name in cursive.

Great review cursive for your children. Take me back to the good old days with the slim pencil. A lot of home school will love this article but it also is a necessity in the public school setting too.
