To my firstborn . . .
On this day 21 years ago you made me a mom. On this day 21 years later there is so much to be reflect on. As you celebrate this day of manhood when the government and alcohol establishments see you as old enough to make your own choices and handle many responsibilities that honestly still freak me out – I reflect. I reflect on where we started, where you are gone and what is still ahead.
To my firstborn . . .
I reflect on the many times I cried because I thought I was a bad mom. The times I sat and watched you sleeping wondering if I was screwing you up beyond repair. I think back on the moments when you walked, talked, ran and began that amazing journey of becoming your very own human.
To my firstborn. . .
Today I realize I didn’t mess up as much as I thought. My mistakes didn’t stick – you recovered and adjusted. You are an amazing human being that I admire a bit and am inspired by a bunch. I thank God for helping me to become what you needed and when I couldn’t sending me people who could. I think on the man you’re still on your way to becoming as well as the son, brother, friend and support you already are.
I am thankful for your life.
I am blessed to be your mother.
I am proud of who you are.
I am in awe of who you will be.
To my firstborn. . .
On this day, I wish you the best of blessings, confidence to pursue your dreams and the strength to make the choices you need to do it – both easy and hard.
