Treasure The Moments

I just finished telling my youngest daughter that she has a room and a TV and that she doesn’t need to sit up under me all night. I told her she could go watch whatever she wanted in her room so that I can watch whatever I wanted in the living room.

Now as I sit here thinking on it these are moments that I’m missing out on. Having three older kids I already know the time of them actually wanting to be around me us [parents] is short-lived. So perhaps I need to rethink and start to treasure the moments I have while I have them.

I can watch my shows whenever. I mean that’s what DVRs are for, right? That’s what streaming is for and that’s what the time they’re in school is for. Why not let her be around me if that’s all she wants?

Most times her being around me is simply playing her tablet and listen to her music.

Recently I asked my kiddies:

Why do ya’ll just want to sit here if you each have your own rooms?

Their response:

We just want to be near you.

How many kids actually still want to do that? These kiddies are 11 almost 10 and 7 and still wanna be around me?

Once their pre-teen and teen years hit I have a feeling moments of them simply wanting to be around me may come few and far between.

I think back on my double-digit years and remember wanting nothing more than to be alone and in my room – and nowhere near my Grandmother!

So yeah even though I love my mom time I think I might just learn to have our time a bit more often so I can treasure the moments like these.

After all, once they’re gone there is no going back.
