Who’s says work isn’t fun?? In my BlogLife it definitely can be especially when I attend a BlogHer Conference. My Day 1 at #BlogHer17 proves work and fun can go hand in hand.
I remember as I packed my bags earlier this week to make the trip to Florida. I was talking to my husband about how I want to try and fit in a bit of fun. I told him this was definitely a work trip for me because I had a set of things I wanted needed to do for networking, learning and promoting my business and my brand during this conference.
When I arrived and saw not only the amazingness that is the Hilton Bonnet Creek I knew that I wanted to be sure to have a balance of both work and fun. Let’s just say finding that balance wasn’t as difficult as I may have thought it would be.
Day 1 of #BlogHer17 started with me sending my dedicated roommate off to find the gym while I stayed in the room to order room service. Yeah, that’s how I roll! A plate of pancakes, a few mishaps with the in-room coffee machine and several social media posts later I was ready to get dressed to meet up with reps to finalize a few things on an upcoming hub reveal.
I continued my day by grabbing a quick snack from the lobby cafe and heading back to my room to make sure my bathing suit had a bit of time in the sun today. Once my roommate joined me we headed down to explore the lazy river pool.
This pool is! I mean just look at it! At first I was going to be reserved. We found two chairs a couple towels and sat for a few. We both eyed the pool, the people and the inner tubes floating nearby. It was time for a bit of fun! We grabbed our inner tubes and decided to take on the lazy river style fun of this amazing pool.
After a few tries and a few flips we found our flow and let the current take us. Okay, Andrea let the current take her. For some reason I kept feeling like I needed to paddle, flap, kick or something just to keep moving. That’s when Nono floated by and told me I was ‘doing lazy all wrong’. She explained to me the art of a lazy river – telling me to simply pick my feet up and float on by. Still, somehow when I saw her roommate Arlene taking an involuntary break in her inner tube near the stairs – I still felt the urge to paddle…LOL
Little did I know I would end up meeting these two Lovies again in the Registration line and then spending the rest of my day through Keynotes, Expo Hall straight through to dinner at the local Bahama Breeze. I was able to network my business, promote my brand and have a bit of fun all in the same day.
So if you’re ever wondering what makes BlogHer one of those Conferences you just have to experience. I’d say the ability to work your business and still have fun would be at the top of my list of reasons!

I didn’t talk to much about my regrets but I definitely would have flew in earlier or leave later. I didn’t spend any time near a pool. Shame on me. It was great meeting you though. You’re such a cool person.
Oh Yes! I recommend that to any BlogHer Attendee. I’ve always stayed a day after but this year was the first time I came a day early and I loved it! That will definitely be my aim from now on. I lived at that pool every spare moment…LOL It was awesome meeting you too! I think you’re kinda cool yourself… LOL
This looks like such a fun experience. I’ve yet to attend a BlogHer but really want to! Each year I say I’m making it a priority then don’t. One year I’ll get there!
It truly was Heather! Perhaps you will get a chance next year?!?! 🙂 Be sure to stay tuned for the When and Where announcement . . .
As long as you love what you’re doing, it’ll be FUN! So happy you were able to have fun and learn at the same time. Keep it up!
This is SO true Journal!! Thanks so much . .
They say if you’re doing what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life, and I believe that! It’s also very important for us to find that balance where we find goods in the things that may not always be as exciting. I’m an extroverted person so meeting many different people at these conferences excite me and make them worth while!
Love It Jenell! Yes! That’s exactly what Blogging is to me. Exactly! It is so important. I’m more of an ambivert but I love the new connections, friendship and opportunities! So worth it.
I have only been to Blogher once, in 2013, I think it was. I haven’t attended any blog conference in a few years. It is great to get out and meet other bloggers, and connect with brands. I also really appreciate a good session. I think I could use some refreshing next year.
So you know how great BlogHer can be. My first was in 2015. I would definitely say getting yourself back in the conference game would be a good thing. New connections are always great! Thanks so much for coming by Jenn!
I have never been to this conference, but I have heard of it. Do you have to be a part of their ad network to go? It definitely looks like a lot of fun. I do not know if I will be able to go to a blogger conference this year, but I may have to look into this one for next year.
No anyone can go. No need to be a part of the network. It was a ton of fun and full of networking opportunities. Keep an eye out at http://facebook.com/blogher for the announcement of where and when next year’s conference will be 🙂
I really need to make it to one of the BlogHER events. Maybe next time it comes closer to me. It looks like you had a blast! Blogging is hard work, but it definitely can be a load of fun! I don’t think any of us would do it if it wasn’t, right? It has to be fun at least sometimes to make it worth the crazy hours we put into it! 😀
Oh you should!! It’s such a great way to not only expand your presence and influence but connect with other Bloggers and brands. Yes the fun must always win or at least come in as a tie 😉
That lazy river pool looks like so much fun!
It was super relaxing . . . I almost forgot I was in there and I have the tan lines to prove it! 😀
Totally awesome!!! Glad that you were able to have a bit of fun while on a business trip. It’s one of the reasons I love blogging so much!
Thanks so much Karen!! It was the best of both worlds! Same here…
Eek! I’ve been seeing peoples’ posts about BlogHer and I’m hoping to make it there in the next few years! It looks like you had a fabulous time! And those pools look so incredible!
Haha! Wel I’m glad to share a bit more with you . . I hope you get to come to one soon! I did and yes, they were! 😀
As a local attending the conference I didn’t get to enjoy that AMAZING pool and lazy river! I won’t make that mistake again. I wonder where we’ll be conferencing next year….
Oh No!! I wish I would have seen you – you could have totally hung out there with me! It’s so relaxing . . I’m not sure yet but I can’t wait to find out!!
I enjoyed your recap and explanation of how a blogger conference can be fun while working. I am glad you had a great time. I have stayed in that hotel before and that alone seemed to have made it worth while, along with the many connections I am sure you made. As always, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Leslie!! I definitely plan on staying at this hotel during our next family visit. It’s so fun and close to everything you need to have the perfect Florida vacation! Yes! The connections were awesome. Thanks so much for coming by!
I get VERY overwhelmed at Blog Conferences, so I usually shy away. Maybe I will make an effort to go to BlogHer next year?
It can be overwhelming BUT if you make time to recharge yourself (an hour or two in your room) and make friends to help buffer the pressure – it’s possible to have a great time and skip to overwhelming part.
