   We have a DSLR camera too, but like you I had a very hard time figuring out how to hold it. When I tried, I ended up with extremely blurry and messed up images every time. So, it's now completely my husbands camera! I have my own small little basic camera that I;m comfortable with using. I vowed to be a blogger, but taking amazing pictures will never be my strong suit.

      You should definitely give it another try because you can take amazing pics with a DSLR without being a pro. You should check out The Photo Ladies over at CraftyWife.com. She is helping us all (from basic on up) to learn everything we need to have amazing pictures and enhance our skills. I\’d love to see you there!

   Just got one for Christmas. Nikon D3100. I haven't really researched anything about it though lol… never even thought about the correct way to hold it until I saw this!

   I dont have one of those cameras, but learning how to manage a video camera. I'm sure in time you will master the use, I guess for some it comes natural but for me I would also not know how to. Good luck with your challenge.

   I've been holding an (D)SLR for so long I don't even remember how I started. I guess it just came… naturally? But you are right there are a lot of online sources to brush up on just about everything

   I do have one but, it's kind of a pain to use so I have an easier camera that takes just as good pictures.

   I took a photography class in college with my dad's vintage SLR but never even considered how I was holding it! Now I just use a Nikon Coolpix because it fits in my pocket.

      The only thing that made me consider it was that my photos were com in yup kinda blurred. I thought hmmm maybe I need to hold it differently? Turns out I was right…LOL I would love to take a photography class…I'm sure there is plenty more for me to learn

      LOL… I was so confused that I started looking it up and so far the majority of things I've found say underhand with your elbows tucked in for stability and to reduce shake.

   I've always put one hand underneath the lens, I never realized it didn't feel normal to some people! haha Before I had my tripod, holding it that way gave me more stability for those low-light shots I wanted. I also feel that if I get jostled in a large crowd (like at Disney World) I have a much firmer grip on it. You'll get used to it and it'll become second nature. Can't wait to see what photos you've taken with it on the 15th!

      I was overhanding it at first and it wasn't right somehow. I kept getting blur. So I did a bit of research and for all the reasons you said and many more underhanded is the right way I can't wait for the 15th either. It's been hard finding anything to photograph because our weather has been crazy but we seem to be having a break (70 degrees yesterday) so I'm getting out there for sure!

       There really is, Diana. I have a brother who is a photographer so i definitely grill him every chance I get but I have also joint up with the Photo Ladies over at CraftyWife.com It's a group for every level of DSLR user to help us learn and get familiar with the camera and how to use it.
