I Appreciate My Sinus Infection #828Blessings {10}

Last week was the first week since I started #828Blessings that I failed to post.  I was absent was because I have been sick since November 1st.  Still, I appreciate for my sinus infection and the lesson it has taught me.  I know, appreciative to a sinus infection?  Odd right?  Let me explain.

Symptoms

The day after Halloween I woke up feeling pretty sluggish but simply chalked it up to being out and running around the entire day before with my Kiddies for the holiday.  I’d been outside in what was basically a school girl costume all day. Still I hadn’t considered it to be that frigid or anything, so getting sick was the last thing on my mind.  By that night though I knew that the weather had taken it’s toll.

My throat that hurt so bad, each time I swallowed I felt as if I had razor blades on each side. On top of that my ear was popping every time I did manage to swallow and it felt like someone had stabbed me with an ice pick.  I knew I was going down for the count and there was pretty much nothing I could do about it.

By Saturday morning, I was shivering despite feeling as if I had an internal heater turned to HIGH.  I tried all my home remedied like tea, honey, lemon, rest etc. yet nothing was bringing me relief.  During this entire time my Hubby was by my side and acting as my nurse until the point where he too developed my symptoms.  Then my Teenager and my Baby Girlie decided to join in on my sicky party.  So if you’re keeping count that makes a total of 4 out of the 6 people who live in my home now sick.

I Give In

By the 4th day I was completely at the mercy of this cold (I didn’t know it was a sinus infection yet).  I needed relief and wanted it fast.  Unfortunately the doctor wasn’t exactly on my time frame.  I wouldn’t be able to see anyone until Thursday.  As I waited I realized how much of my Kiddies and Hubby’s lives I was missing out on while I was either in my laptop on my phone or engrossed in some form of Social Media connection.

My Kiddies even said they were happy I was sick because I was able to play with them (barely but I tried and I guess something was better than nothing).  I’d fallen short.  What happened to my balance between my Blogger interests and my Momma and Wife responsibilities?  When did the weights get uneven?

The Realization

I looked around me and realized I had not truly been ‘present’ for some time.  Probably since the start of my Blog in July.  I’d wanted so badly to establish, promote, connect and maintain my Blog I’d forgotten that my family had no parts in that and may be bored with simply watching me ‘typity type type’ (my 6 year old’s words) on my laptop all the time.

So this is why I am thankful for this dastardly sinus infection which came across my path.  It forced me to take a step back and a look within.  I was able to reassess my priorities and notice that certain things needed to change.  I am also thankful for my loving Hubby and Kiddies for being willing to be there even if perhaps I wasn’t.

What are you thankful for this week?

    I hope that you are feeling better. I always wait until it's too late to go to the doctor when I get those types of colds. I get lots of sinus infections and this year I have had several cases of bronchitis. No fun, I agree it is awesome to pause sometimes and just rest.

      Feeling better. The antibiotics are helping tremendously. I did wait a bit too long but in glad I went when I did.

    I think sometimes life has it's own way of making us pause for a while so we can see what our real purpose is.
    I hope you are feeling better now!
