Our wineries and vineyards, give North Carolina the ability to produce wines with bold tastes that are sure to leave big impressions. Thanks to the North Carolina department of agriculture I had the opportunity to tour 2 local vineyards and wineries to discovery what makes their wine stand out from all the rest.
Bold Tastes
Grove Winery & Vineyards – Gibsonville, NC
Our first stop on our tour was Grove Winery & Vineyards. Located in Gibonsville, NC which in the Piedmont East area of North Carolina part of the Haw River Valley wine country. Grove Winery & Vineyards grows a variety of European Style grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay and Tempranillo.
These grapes product award-winning wines such as the 2009 Cabernet Franc, 2011 Sangiovese, 2012 Haw River White, 2015 Viognier and 2017 Traminette.
Grove Winery handcrafts premium wines, 80% of which are grown on our own estate vineyards. All grapes are handpicked in small containers and pressed gently with a basket press. The 5000 square foot winery has a capacity of 4200 cases (10,000 gallons).
The Grover Winery & Vineyards also offers events such as Wine Appreciation Classes, Paint Nights and Concerts Series. Gregory Vineyards – Angier, NC
Gregory Vineyards is also located in the Piedmont East area of North Carolina with a picturesque setting for everything from corporate business meeting, fashion shows to weddings.
Gregory Vineyards has a charm that can only linked to their strong family ties to the vineyard. Many of their wines are names after family and friends.
A few of the wines I had the chance to taste include the Bald Eagle (my fave by far), Sly Fox, Stella Mae, Mary Elizabeth, Lee Love, Sunset and Happy. How fun are these names!?!
Gregory Vineyard wines are produced with the North Carolina native Muscadine Grape. The Muscadine grape is the first cultivate grape in the nation. Muscadines thrive in the heat and humidity we have here in North Carolina. Muscadines are also one of the richest sources for antioxidants in nature with cancer fighting properties within the skin, pulp and seed! Do you know the difference between Brandy Wine and Moonshine? Gregory Vineyards owner Lane Gregory taught us that Brandy Wine is produced with fruit while Moonshine is produced with grains. Gregory Vineyards has a variety of Brandy Wines that are both seasonal and year-round.I tried the Lady Grits (based on the name alone) and let’s just say: I wasn’t ready! :0
One of the things I loved most about Gregory Vineyards – besides the wine – was the landscape! Thankfully they are willing to share it by offering the 120 acre property as the perfect backdrop for weddings, receptions, luncheons, banquets and more!

The Wine Feed – Durham, NC
The last stop on our North Carolina wine tour was neither a winery or a vineyard. The Wine Feed is what I would describe as a wine lovers hang out. The Wine Feed is a wine bar, wine club and wine shop! It’s a one stop place to enjoy your favorite bottle, find a community of fellow wine lovers and find a bottle to take home.
At The Wine Feed, we wake up every day ready to share great wine. Over the years, our inviting and educational culture has created an incredible community of wine- lovers. Big Impressions
I started the wine tour unsure of what I liked, loved or even hated. I had no idea the depth of wine varieties and options located here in North Carolina. after this tour is am excited to spread the word about the quality of wineries and vineyards we have in our state!
