Top 5 Hyper Local Blog Post Ideas

Every blogger wants to stay relevant to their audience as well as their niche. As a hyper local blogger this can be a challenge. Here are 5 hyper local blog post ideas to help make things a bit easier!

What’s A Hyper Local Blog?

First let’s answer your first question: what’s a hyper local blog? It’s exactly what it sounds like. A blog that relates to or focuses on one location or community. Becoming a hyper local blogger was a natural progression for my site. My love for the city of Fayetteville, small businesses, veteran business owners, entrepreneurs – all of this factored into my choice to give space for local support and promotion. The net step was figuring out the how.

The most valuable key to a successful hyper local blog is the ability to share your personal experiences of the people, places and things their city has to offer.

The more involved I became with my city, its small businesses and owners as well as our visitors bureau the easier it was to create new blog posts ideas with a focus on the topics and interests that would most impact my area – my city.

My Top 5 Hyper Local Blog Post Ideas

1. Small/New Business Spotlights

Building a relationship with the small businesses and business owners within your community is a huge step to establishing yourself as a blogger within your community. Through support and interaction you can become a resource to businesses, potential consumers, citizens and visitors.

Get to know the owner, their story and their goals within the community. This will allow you to curate content that will highlight those things as well as offer support through promotion and influence. Business spotlights can focus on why you love the business, the owner’s story, services they offer.

2. Event RoundUps

Visitors and citizens alike always love to find out what to do in a city. Creating a round-up style post of events and activities within your city by theme is a great way to supply that demand.

Theme ideas include things like Things To Do for Artists, Adventure Seekers, Foodies, etc. Many visitors bureaus are anxious to work with local bloggers and can become amazing resources for access to this information.

These posts can be list style where you simply offer the date, time and place or you can go a bit further and include your personal thoughts on the event or a short description of what to expect when readers attend. This is totally up to you and how you determine what style fits your blog best.

3. Event Recaps & Reviews

You’ve share the when and the where of what’s happening in your city but you can take that a bit further and develop posts that share your first-hand experience as a citizen who has attended the event.

I’ve been able to create event recaps for every type of event from festivals to store openings. Offering readers a personal perspective can have a greater impact than a generic press release or event listing through a newspaper.

4. Favorites Lists

Whether a visitor from another city or new resident many people want to know what it is the ‘locals’ love most about the city they live in. That lends to a great opportunity to create posts based on your favorites of your city.

A few ideas include: coffee shops, hiking trails or parks, venues, restaurants, family fun, date ideas, etc.

5. Places To See

Very similar to favorites compiling posts that highlight places to see within your city can be a great way to draw potential visitors to your hyper local blog. Sharing content that creates a buzz and sparks interest in your city allows you to expand your influence and reach beyond the city’s limits.
