The Arts Council’s Summer Block Party was Off The Hook! Okay, okay obviously I love having fun with words but seriously, this party was one our community will not forget!

The Idea

The idea for a summer block party started at a table within the Arts Center. The Comittee knew we wanted an event that would bring people together in a fun way. What’s says community more than a block party? So now we just had to make it happen . . .

Taking over the Maxwell Street from the corners of Hay down to Franklin was the first step. The next was filling the block with food, fun, music, art and most importantly – community!

The Arts Council took on the task by bringing together a group of people who have not only passion for our city but the willingness to work, network and support it through action. What began as an idea to bring awareness of what our Arts Council has done and wants to do within the community of Fayetteville and Cumberland County became the perfect start to the summer!

The Food

What’s a sea boil without the seafood? Thanks to Elite Catering and Chef Lou Irizarry we were treated to Shrimp, Corn-on-the-Cob, Potatoes and everything that makes a sea-boil great!

Oh and we knew we couldn’t have amazing food without equally amazing drinks! That’s where Adams Beverages of North Carolina stepped in an provided a seemingly endless supply of drinks for everyone at the party.

The Music

So just to let y’all in on a bit of a secret: the summer block party committee made a list of our favorite songs to play throughout the party and I only had one contribution – The Wobble! LOL… thankfully the rest of the committee members came up with the some awesome picks which gave DJ Swoop all he needed to make our Maxwell Street dance floor hard to resist.

The Art

The Arts Council’s mission is to support the growth of art and artist within our community. The block party was the perfect platform to showcase just a few of those artists. Throughout the footprint of the party, there were artists creating LIVE art. We had everything from hair art to body art and a bit of everything in between.

The Fun

I can tell you how fun the night was but there are just somethings you have to see for yourself!

The Council – We Are The Arts

The Arts Council Fayetteville Cumberland County is more than that building with the red doors. This block party was one meant to bring both our community and our purpose together. Our new CEO Greg Weber is a man with a passion he is not ashamed to express. Whether it is standing on top of a tree stump to say Thank You to the many citizens who supported the block party or pushing an initiative to unite art and the community in a new way – his love of the arts and this city drive him.

Each and every resident of Fayetteville and Cumberland County can play a role in supporting the arts in our school, in our communities, and in our city.
